A language policy document aimed at guiding the use and adoption of Ivorian languages within the education system is expected to be finalized in the coming months. A workshop was held in Grand-Bassam from July 10 to 12, 2026, organized by the Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education.

The meeting focused on presenting the findings of a field study and validating a draft language policy for the national education system. The long-term objective is to make Ivorian languages a genuine driver of inclusion, academic success, and the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.

According to education experts, integrating and teaching national languages within the education system can facilitate and strengthen students’ learning, while making education more accessible and better adapted to local contexts. However, they emphasized that this process must be carefully structured and supervised.

This is precisely the commitment demonstrated by the services of Minister N’Guessan Koffi, who was represented at the Grand-Bassam workshop by Inspector General Diomandé Mabintou Chérif. According to her, improving the quality of learning, reducing inequalities, promoting inclusion, and preparing young people for economic, social, technological, and cultural transformations all require educational policies rooted in national realities.

“National languages are precisely one of these invaluable resources,” she emphasized.
