The Byblos Hotel Marcory hosted the Diaspora Connect event on May 21, 2026, a gathering dedicated to the issues of mobility and the return of African diasporas.

Under the themes “Decoding What the Dynamics and Data Reveal” and “Engaging Differently, Building Sustainably,” participants—including researchers, entrepreneurs, institutional leaders, and members of the diaspora—discussed migration realities and opportunities to contribute to national development.

The discussions highlighted several key findings: migration trends reveal a growing desire among diaspora members to return, although this is often hindered by administrative and economic barriers; there is a need for sustainable engagement beyond one-off initiatives to build long-term, impactful projects; and diaspora entrepreneurship and skills transfer are important drivers of transformation.

Several workshops were held, including one focused on recommendations for the success of expatriates, led by Steve Essis, Executive President of the Ivorian Network of Diaspora Graduates (RIDD).

According to the organizers, the event aims to reposition the diaspora as a strategic actor in development by promoting circular mobility and encouraging strong partnerships between expatriate communities, local institutions, and the private sector.

Participant Jean Yves Bragbo summarized the spirit of the day: “It is no longer just about returning, but about building sustainably through a different kind of commitment.”

The event concluded with concrete recommendations aimed at strengthening inclusive public policies and creating an environment conducive to investment and innovation.
